TESTIMONIALS from Dallas

My wife, Cele Carpenter, suffered a cerebellar stroke on June 3, 2022. She was in critical condition and admitted to a specialized neuroscience intensive care unit at Parkland Hospital Dallas. After two weeks in ICU, she was transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation facility at nearby Zale Lipshy Hospital for another two weeks.

When Cele finally came home, she had intense symptoms of vertigo, nausea, and movement provoked dizziness that impacted her mobility and safety. Additionally, the severity of her stroke and her long stay in intensive care had a dramatic effect on her stamina. She was, in essence, wheelchair bound. I was at a real loss on what to do and where to seek help for the next phase of her care.

I interviewed several large Dallas area rehabilitation clinics but felt their programs were too “cookie cutter” in nature, and I was really concerned she would become just another number. Thankfully, a friend whose wife had had a stroke suggested I meet with Sunil Mathew to discuss his unique approach for treating stroke and traumatic brain injury patients. Cele and I felt like his customized approach was the right fit for her.

Sunil and his team tailored a rehabilitation plan that focused on her specific needs. While intense at times, their consistent hands on approach slowly began to show results for Cele. Equally important as the physical therapy was the mental encouragement of Sunil and his team that brought Cele through a very difficult time in her life and restored her self confidence. From the boutique, client friendly environment of the clinic to the always compassionate yet exacting oversight of her care - we couldn’t be more pleased with our experience. Therefore, Cele and I highly recommend Sunil, his team and the Neuro-IFRAH program to anyone unfortunately confronted with the need for Neuro-rehabilitation. We really feel blessed to have met Sunil - and both of us consider him not only a wonderful PT but a good friend.

After my husband Josh’s stroke we immediately started physical therapy at the best rehabilitation hospital in our town. It was all we knew to do. They provided good care and helped us adjust to our new normal. But we were presented with limitation after limitation and honestly not a lot of hope for Josh’s future.

Thankfully we encountered a therapist who had experience with the fundamentals of NEURO-IFRAH and he helped us see a different approach to full body therapy. Honestly it gave us hope again. We got connected with Sunil and his team at NEURO-IFRAH Clinics by Waleed in Dallas and got to work.

The difference in care from the beginning was exceptional. Josh unfortunately had balance issues and a fall that resulted in ankle injury before we started working with Sunil. He was able to identify the cause and got him in an appropriate ankle and foot brace. Then rehabbed the injury with resources we would have not had if still doing traditional therapy.

The environment of the clinic Sunil and Charly create is excellent! The intensive program and one on one therapy you receive here is unlike anything we had experienced. Their patients' treatment is specific to individual needs and goals. The protocols they follow start with fundamentals that no other therapist had worked on with us before. This helped Josh relearn the correct way to move instead of the compensation type of therapy he was taught before. He had neglected his affected right side after the stroke to where he lived like he didn’t have a right arm at all. The Neuro-Ifrah sequences Sunil used has given us the most improvement through his hand, wrist, arm and shoulder. He is now able to lift his right arm smoothly while holding his wrist and hand in extension to be able to do normal tasks like reaching and supporting himself.

Not only was our hope restored but the team at NEURO-IFRAH helped instill a new confidence in Josh that I hadn’t seen in many years. That in itself was worth more to us than anything else.

My name is Patrick McCoy and about a month ago, my wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Sunil at his clinic in Dallas. I am a stroke survivor who will be discharged from my current rehab facility in December 2025. Because the rehab facility I am currently at had not been able to work through some major side effects caused by the stroke, Sunil was highly recommended to me by another PT. Increased muscle tone affected the flexibility in my muscles, ligaments and tendons of my left arm and leg. This lack of flexibility affected my ability to properly use my affected left side. My ability to walk, and overall use of my hand and arm were affected as well. After just 1 session, I was more mobile and flexible in my left arm, hand and foot than I had been since my stroke a couple years prior. He had me doing things I couldn’t do before the stroke. He was excellent about explaining the process and what we need to do that was not being done currently. He was very professional and kind! I too would highly recommend him!!”

Our son suffered a severe TBI and two strokes, from impact, due to a vehicle accident, and we were blessed by God to have found Neuro-Ifrah. These words will never adequately describe how life changing our son’s care has been at Neuro-Ifrah.

Our family spent two months hospitalized, working our way through the intensive care unit, neuro floors, step down units, and in-patient therapy clinics with no clear cut answer as to what we would do upon discharge. We spent hours researching locations not only in the DFW area, but also, nationally recognized programs across the country, with hopes of finding the best fit for our son. By God’s grace we were lead to Neuro-Ifrah and Dr. Sunil Mathew.

Spending weeks at an inpatient rehab facility and touring multiple outpatient centers, talking with therapists, providers, and admin staff, all of the programs began to mirror one another. Similar to our inpatient stay, the path was very linear with set protocols and expectations fit to the diagnosis, not the patient. The focus was on the latest equipment, state of the art facilities, which sports organizations have partnered with them, and other aspects that didn’t seem relevant to our biggest concern, how they will best serve our son.

Meeting Dr. Mathew was different from the onset. He came to the hospital to assess our son and brought a presence of peace and confidence to the situation. From the first session at his office, we knew his treatment was different from anything we had encountered previously. It is not the typical therapy with patients being placed on aerobic machines or gym equipment designed for those that have proper body movement. Neuro-Ifrah uses both specialized orthotics and focused exercises that assist in retraining the brain and body to do what they are meant and designed to do. Each session our son receives 1:1 attention from Dr. Mathew and his team. They provide the coaching, teaching, support, and confidence our son requires, and they tailor to his needs each session. Adjustments are made to the treatment based on his emotional or physical state; the team reads his state of being and intensifies or pacifies the plan in real time.

Dr. Mathew and Ms. Charlena Rodez are our son’s biggest cheerleaders, advocates, and mentors. They continue to walk him through intense seasons of ups and downs as this healing is so incredibly hard emotionally, physically, and mentally.

A Game Changer for Neuro Rehab: Our Only Regret is Not Finding Them Sooner

My son, Max, at the age of 14, suffered a life-altering AVM rupture that resulted in severe left-side paralysis. The journey to regain function has been long and difficult, especially since Max was medically unable to begin intensive physical rehabilitation until about eight months after his injury.

The neuro-rehabilitation world is complex, with no single map or resource. We spent years navigating various therapies before we found Sunil and his team—about three years after the initial injury.

Finding them was a true game-changer.

Instead of simply meeting Max where he was, as typical rehab facilities do, Sunil and his team consistently pushed Max to where he could be. They combine expertise in the field of neuro with genuine compassion, creating significant mobility and "looseness" improvements that other programs couldn't achieve.

We are incredibly pleased with the real gains Max has made. The inspiration, specialized care, and dedication of Sunil's team have led to progress we once only hoped for. Our only regret is not finding them earlier; it would have made a significant difference in his early recovery.

If you are navigating the difficult path of neuro-rehabilitation, we wholeheartedly recommend Sunil and his team. They are the resource you need.
